Yet you choose your poison

“I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom.”
Edgar Allan Poe

Once an addict, always an addict.

Or so they say…

You’re addicted to that continuous drinking of whiskey. Or perhaps you’re addicted to porn. Maybe it’s that enticing needle you let watch poke you into your arm until you forget all else. Might it be your social media? Or maybe it’s that boy across the street in which you keep a close eye. Or maybe it’s a different type of needle: tattoos? Or that razor you keep hidden under your bathroom sink. Maybe you’re addicted to chasing love in all the wrong ways. Or is it keeping up with the fashion that’s constantly changing, alongside you? You’re addicted to money (even though you have a million dollars stashed away for a rainy day). Or freedom. Or struggle. Depression. The façade of joy, eternal. Or maybe… you’re not entirely sure what you’re addicted to, other than feeling some sort of way — until that feeling becomes too familiar, so you chase after something more.
