Despairing Rumination

Natalie Jeanne Maddy

she slowly darkened herself

through the shadows of her prior confinement

in which she allowed the world to define who she should be

rather than who she truly was,

until the darkness consumed her innocence —

vulgar in its distaste for purity —

to the point of no return,

sending her into a black hole

(or was it red?)

of despairing rumination
