My One Stunning Wing

Once upon a time, a butterfly landed on my mom’s shoulder and never left. That same butterfly landed on my arm and is still present and will be in my life for eternity. Perhaps that is why my Mom and I share such a special bond, both baring the weight of such an intriguing creature that has disguised itself in our darkest hours, our most worrying times. But it kept as a reminder along the way of our aching journeys in life.

Butterflies have two births — the first being a hard and ugly life in which people squirm at their presence. They then get stuffed, no, suffocated into a cocoon, where they slowly morph into a radiant creature with wings, hence the so-called second life. They are my reminder that better and brighter futures do exist: it just takes time and patience to see what is in store for us.

Everyone has capabilities yet to be seen or even pursued; butterflies have it easy, innately having a beautiful life ahead of them. But we humans must work hard to flutter our wings. Some of us won’t even get the chance to fly. Some are scared and stay caterpillars their entire lives. But hey… that’s okay because life is about the journey and seeing the beauty in every stage of life, so long as we are happy with ourselves. Are you a butterfly yet? If not, are you one Hell of a caterpillar? Maybe you’re currently in your cocoon, feeling the tightness of breath in your chest as you start…
