The Unrequited Love Poem

I used to pity those poor souls who never experienced love.
But now I pity the foolish bastards who blindly fell for love’s facade.
Was our love ever even real?
What is love when my heart breaks at the sound of your name
Even years after you so cruelly left me?
Left me alone with my thoughts.
Left me alone to wither away without you,
Like a wilting rose in the harshness of winter.
Left me alone at the altar.
Was it because of my used wedding dress — a curse to our love?
Or was it because you loved your misery more than my company?
Perhaps love is always unrequited,
Leaving one soul yearning to be stitched back together
While the other soul wanders lustfully for a new life.
A new love.
I see the ghost of you in what used to be our bedroom,
And I swear it looks happier than when you were still here.
Before you lost the battle against life itself,
Succumbing to the love of Depression
While I waited for you to be mine forever.
If what we had was love,
Then I don’t want it anymore.
I wish my love for you died alongside your body
When you so selfishly let go of this world.
Let go of me.
Let go of my love.
But alas, you will forever be in the cozy spot of my sorrow-filled heart
As I mourn for your love.
And mourn for you.
