You Don’t Know Your Lasts
Adore your present moments, always
“I always think everything is going to last forever, but nothing ever does. In fact nothing exists longer than an instant except the thing that we hold in memory”
― Sam Savage
He kisses you on the cheek just prior to leaning in close to your ear, whispering I love you, and the build-up of butterflies roaming your belly are now in a flurry, and it feels like you might die of nervous excitement. But little do you know: this is the last I love you he’ll ever utter to you.
You leisurely sip your coffee at your favorite café as you wrap up the finale of your latest book, and then you leave, not even blinking an eye as you feel its energy for (what little do you know) the last time.
They bring you in closely for a bear hug, and you remember nearly every childhood experience you’ve had as your parents wish you well in your new endeavors, not realizing this is the last hug you’ll ever feel from them because little do you know, they won’t be around for much longer.
You snuggle up next to your dog, and he’s snoring louder than your husband, but instead of petting him goodnight (because you’re so fucking tired from work), you close your eyes until you fall gently asleep. But little do you know, it’s his last snuggle you’ll ever feel.
