Remembering You to Forget You
a poem
--
“Love is so short, forgetting is so long.”
— Pablo Neruda
you walk into my life in mere moments,
whisking my breath away
with your sweet little smile and oh so sexy style
you push yourself into my space,
shattering the boundaries i once set for life
because you make me swoon for you
but also swoon for us
you have this innocent yet full of secrets look in your eyes
but you look the other way when i try staring at you for too long
my gut signals me one thing
my head warns me yet another thing
my heart utters yet one more thing
my friends scream more and more things
you whisper sweet nothings
so when there’s a fork in the road
and i must choose which direction to go —
left, right, back, or to stand completely still
i choose to stand still
not because i can’t choose between left and right
not because the road behind me is too dark a road
not even because i can’t feel my legs enough to move forward
but because i need to find the truth inside my own fucking self
of what choice will best serve me
as i walk through life under Natural Law,
following what’s in alignment with myself
but as i’m standing still, in silence with my thoughts
as i transcend beyond meditation
to remember the answers always within me
i have this sudden inkling that i need not sit in silence anymore
because the choice has been made for me
as i sit here alone,
forever alone
you walked out of my life in mere moments,
whisking my breath away
as i remember your sweet little smile and oh so sexy style
